Verdi wrote Otello after a long sixteen-year hiatus following the success of Aida. Premiering in 1887 with a libretto by poet Arrigo Boito, this drama rightfully holds its place on the pedestal of world opera. It is a story filled with moments of raw truth and the shattering of human character—a profoundly valuable work that serves as a testament to how captivating and beautiful opera can be.
