A Trip to a Railway Wonder
Discover the steepest railway line in the Czech Republic, running from Tanvald through Kořenov to Harrachov. Its builders tackled the sharp incline using a unique rack system—a toothed rail between the tracks that engages with a cogwheel on the locomotive. Although modern trains no longer require this technology for regular operations, thanks to the Tanvald Railway Society (Železniční společnost Tanvald), you can still experience the unique atmosphere of riding a historic rack locomotive during nostalgia rides and visit our museum in Kořenov.
Join us and experience the unique, living cultural heritage of the Jizera and Giant Mountains. The price of the trip includes a steam train ride in historic carriages from Kořenov to Harrachov, crossing a 27-metre-high steel viaduct over the Jizera River and passing through the 280-metre-long Harrachov tunnel. A ride on a vintage railcar from Kořenov to Tanvald will take you along a scenic mountain track. In addition, you will visit the Rack Railway Museum in Kořenov, the locomotive depot, a mining railway, or the "World of Cogwheel Railways".
The price per person is 520 CZK. Booking is required. The trips take place with a minimum of 6 people, with a maximum capacity of 16 people.
