Spa Libverda

According to the tale a border guard settled there in order to guard the frontier. Apart from that, he ran an inn for foot patrolmen who would take a rest there from their wearisome and exhausting duty. His name has been forgotten long since. He had a cottage surrounded by modest fields, a yard of swine, hens and, naturally, a cock. One day the cock started to put on weight speedily. The man noticed and could not resist looking for the cause. He began to watch the cock carefully, and what a surprise it was to find out that the cock did not go to drink from the nearby brook like the hens but to a hardly accessible swamp not far from the trail. Thus the man revealed his secret. Yet that was not all! The cock was growing old, like all living creatures, but retained his health and strength. When he eventually died, the man cut him open and what he found! The volume of his body was not caused by fat, as the man had expected, but by the size of his inner organs. Not even for a second did he doubt that it was all an effect of the water the cock had drunk. He decided to test the water on himself. He cut his way through the bushes to the swamp to find a spring burbling with large bubbles. He too began to put on weight by drinking the miraculous mineral water and grew very strong. Some time later he was no more able to hide the spring from others as nobody failed to notice the great transformation he had been going through. All other people started to come to the spring to drink its magical water. The place was named Libverda. The green cock (originally in its truthful colours) can be still seen atop the roof of Eduard Spring.

The first historic record referring to the village is preserved in the land and duties register of the Frýdlant estate from 1381, kept in the state archive of Děčín. The village was then called Lybenwerde (see Etymology of the village name) and inhabited by local shepherds.
